As with the National Resophonic guitar, the goal of the Maccaferri design was to deliver increased volume so guitars could keep up in bands that included banjos, brass and horns. In the early 1930’s the Selmer company partnered with an Italian luthier named Mario Maccaferri and began producing guitars of his design. The Eastman DM1 Gypsy Jazz Style model demonstrates that acoustic guitars do not only follow the pattern of American designs, particularly Martin and Gibson.
